A teammate (a USBC SF Peninsula Association officer) from my bowling league last night told me Palo Alto bowl is slated to close at the end of August, 2011. As blogged in my last entry, Mel's/Redwood Lanes closed this past May. This will be the second bowling center closing on the San Francisco Peninsula this year.
For someone like me where bowling has been an obsession/passion for the past 3 years, this is very sad. It's clear the demand has waned in this part of the SF Bay Area. The dreamer in me would love to see someone with the resources and knowledge to build a members-only bowling center. I still have Serra and Classic Bowls nearby whenever the mood strikes.

Bowls closing along the peninsula are victims of the inflated real estate values in that region. It's not that the bowls are not profitable; they are simply more profitable as housing or mixed use. Cloverleaf and Southshore in the east bay are very busy houses.
